From the first Avic. avic. I had, I've always loved this species! Sadly Nightcrawler had molting issues, and I was not home at the time to get him out of the old exoskeleton. It is surprising how deep it hurts when losing a pet tarantula that most other people would despise from the sheer fact that it is a spider... But enough of that story! I have recently acquired another specimen! Sadly I did not do a preliminary inspection, so it was only when I arrived at home that I noticed the one pedipalp was missing. Even although they do grow back with each successive molt, this made me feel distressed and wonder if the little shit would survive! Another thing was that it created its web mostly attached to the roof of the container I got it in, so on opening this to feed it the web was completely destroyed! So the little bugger wouldn't have an established place of being anymore...
On all of these things happening, I decided to move him to a slightly larger better ventilated enclosure, setting up a few things inside his tank for him to start a new web on and hopefully establish himself. After the wooden chopsticks very suddenly and quickly sprouting mold I removed them and replaced it with a broken clothes peg made of plastic. What I did with this was used some fishing line to tie the two pieces together forming an 'X' shape frame for the spider to climb on and placed it near his plant. After two weeks of stressing the little shit has finally started up a new web, and is feeding easily on pinhead crickets, so for now my concerns can be left at bay. For now I just need to make sure conditions are perfect for the next molt and hope that nothing gets stuck or is pulled off in the process!
I have as yet not given it a name, since the spider is in its third instar only, I want to make sure it molts two to three times successfully with me before becoming attached to it. Although I can say I have handled it a few times already and love its temperament! :) I will soon upload photos of the other T's I have, they are all in small glass containers which are going to be changed for larger clear plastic holders on their next molts. Any suggestions on names for this little Brazilian Pinktoe?
